Tobago, Island of a Myriad Glorious Bays: Trotting round Trinidad and Tobago on the Looney Front, Part 4

by Tammy Levent

New Zealand has a large collection of bay islands in general with their being a total count of one hundred and forty four of them altogether. All of these islands are located within a one hundred square mile natural harbor. However the tiny island of Tobago has almost as many bays within the its one hundred and fifteen square miles in general.

Key Takeaways:

  • New Zealand may have its Bay of Islands, 144 of them within a 100-square-mile natural harbour, but tiny Tobago seems to have almost as many bays within the island’s 115 square miles
  • This is especially true on the Caribbean side, where it’s tempting to say that each succeeding cove is lovelier than the last
  • About half way up the coast, Castara’s mountain-girt strand of golden sand crescents its way round the tree-clad cliffs.

“New Zealand may have its Bay of Islands, 144 of them within a 100-square-mile natural harbour, but tiny Tobago seems to have almost as many bays within the island’s 115 square miles of jungle-cloaked volcanic cliffs.”
